SAVING ARKANSAS CATS THROUGH TRANSPORT

WHY TRANSPORT?

Rescue transport addresses the animal population imbalance, by moving cats from overburdened areas with limited market demand, to regions with fewer animals and higher market demand.  According to the Association for Animal Welfare Advancement (theaawa.org), transport reduces euthanasia and saves animal lives.

Arkansas is one state with an overpopulation of stray cats. Our rescue partner - Happy Tails Rescue in Minnesota - has limited access to local stray cats.  A match made in cat heaven!

how are the cats prepared?

Cats must be at least 8 weeks, at least 2 pounds, socialized and healthy. They receive some of the required vaccines (completed at destination) and must pass an vet exam in order to receive an interstate health certificate.

Happy Tails Rescue has a surgery center and full-time vet, so we can send unaltered cats - this reduces our vetting costs.

what happens when they get there?

The cats are assessed, neutered/spayed, and provided any remaining vaccines.  Fortunately, Happy Tails has great success with adoptions through PetsMart and Petco stores.

How can I help?

According to the ASPCA, approximately 860,000 cats are euthanized each year. You can help our efforts by sponsoring a cat or kitten for transport!  We don't receive any adoption fees, only reimbursement for transport costs. Our cost for routine tests, vaccines and basic meds for a healthy cat average $50 - 100 each.
